The Legend of the Lizard
Between the 16th and 17th centuries, a large lizard appeared in Calzadilla, striking fear into the hearts of the locals. It attacked livestock and prevented access to water sources.
One day, the shepherd Colás was out with his dog and his flock when the monster appeared. Terrified, he prayed to Christ of the Agony to help him and Christ miraculously turned his crook into a shotgun, with which he killed the lizard.
At that moment, a supernatural voice was heard exclaiming: 'You shall be broken so that you may kill no one else!', destroying the weapon and rendering it useless. Since then, the remains of the terrible lizard and the shotgun have been on display in the Chapel of Christ of the Agonies.
